I have bought at least 100 of these guidebooks.
She is a household name for my family. I must have bought at least 100 of these guidebooks by Lenore Horowitz. My three children are a little younger than her four (I think she had four), but we have followed in her family's footsteps since the early editions of this guidebook. I have bought every edition since 1984. I say I have bought at least 100, and probably closer to 200 copies, because I have been mailing them to the tenants of my Kilauea vacation rental house for years. I order four to six at a time from Amazon. com several times a year. It is just the best guidebook to give someone who is planning a visit to Kauai. She makes it so easy to find all the beaches by giving you the milemarker and describing the trailhead. Her restaurant reviews are charming and very informative. The Hawaiian music CD is a nice bonus. It gets you in the mood for your trip. I fell in love with Kauai, at least partly due to her guidance. Her love for the island and her desire to share this wonderful place comes through in her writing. Thank you, Lenore! You're the best!.

Disapointment
I found it useless. I purchased this book on the recomendation of a friend. It is poorly organized, lacks useful maps and is not well indexed. It fails to provide any context. We traveled with friends who had the "The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook: Kauai Revealed", and that is the book to have. BTW, the free hawaiian music CD that comes with the underground guide is very good.

Buy Kauai Revealed!
It contains more warnings about what NOT to do and where NOT to go than it does helpful advice. The Underground Guide is not nearly as detailed as Kauai Revealed. It seems to be written by locals who want to keep tourists away from places other than shopping centers and restaurants. Save your money and buy Kauai Revealed instead.
