Great alternative guide
It works perfectly with a Let's Go or a Frommer's. I was looking everywhere for an alternative guide to AMS and this one fit the bill. Liked the commentary on all the coffeeshops and went to many Paulker mentions in the guide. Liked his commentary and dry sense of humor. He covers, music,fleamarkets,book/record stores,lesser known museums(ie-we went to the Torture Museum-cheesy and sobering, great!) and the underground sex/cannibus culture. Like most guidebooks the info can be lacking in spots. Definately geared toward the young-want-to-travel-but-low-on-funds crowd. AMS is an expensive city and this is great info. We are older and have more funds than we used to, but still used the guide alot. Overall, we agreed with many of his picks and felt it was a good crossection of what the city has to offer in the underground scene. .

Perfect For My "Lost Week"
Seems like he knows some underground stuff. I only had a short time in amsterdam and didn't want to just wander
aimlessly so i tried this one along with a conventional one and found
it a funny read. musta lived there a while. I tried some of the offtrack coffeeshops and "got lost"!! couldn't find my way home with his map though, best for finding the odd places the other books dont cover. worth the price especially if it's your first time.

Great Guide
It was a great book to use to familiarize myself with the city and get an idea of what I was and wasnt interested in doing. I used this guide several times while in amsterdam recently.
The information is straight forward and useful. I recommend this book.
