Excellent overview of province's waterfalls
This book goes a long way toward rectifying that. Few people in Ontario, much less the rest of Canada, realize there are substantial waterfalls outside of the west, north and, perhaps, Quebec.
Author Mark Harris divides the province into 5 districts -- Algoma, cottage country, Golden Horseshoe (around the western end of Lake Ontario), Lake Huron and Ottawa Valley -- and uses George Fischer's mostly excellent colour photographs to show us what this province has to offer.
Together, they cover at least 100 waterfalls, including more than a dozen in the Hamilton/Ancaster area (who knew an area best known for steel mills has such natural wonders?)
Each waterfall has a two-page spread including detailed driving instructions, fact boxes including rating, size and nearest settlement, plus a short essay on the waterfall and its history.
Is the book useful? You bet. It quickly became my prime resource when I want to photograph waterfalls. (Another resource:Waterfalls The Niagara Escarpment, by Jerry Lawton and Mikal Lawton. The pictures aren't as good, but it's still quite useful).
